Iwona Mirosz represented the Law Firm at the annual IT@Bank Congress, which gathered on November 14th many representatives of the IT and financial sectors debating operational, legal and social aspects of the dynamic development of digital technology, banking innovations and co-operation with fin-techs.

Conference speakers – members of the board of the Polish Bank Association, representatives of banks, fin-techs, IT and consulting companies, as well as the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, discussed issues related to cloud data processing, banking innovations and related problems, including employee involvement, partnerships and competition between banks and fintechs, establishing contacts with innovative startups.

The IT @ BANK2019 conference was opened by Krzysztof Pietraszkiewicz, president of the Polish Bank Association, who said that one of the most important tasks of banks and their organization today is participation in ensuring cyber-security, a response to the challenges of 5G technology and Big Data. Krzysztof Pietraszkiewicz also introduced the concept of the Banking Security Center of the Polish Bank Association . He announced its development and emphasized the related wider possibilities of detecting cyber abuse. He also talked about planned security exercises for Polish banking. He also stated that detailed rules should be developed for the identification and verification of persons and entities establishing relationships with banks.

Speakers of the Conference discussed, among others, aspects related to cloud computing now and in the near future. As stated by Marcin Białkowski, adviser to the chairman of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, in October 2017 the first Commission communication on cloud computing was published, and a draft of a new communication for the financial market is currently being consulted. He added that there are still problems with meeting regulatory requirements. He also addressed the issue of chain outsourcing and supplier responsibility.

Attention was also paid to the need to secure data in banks’ systems as well as restrictive access to personal data and the need to anonymize them after the introduction of the GDPR.
